What is RICA?
RICA is a law passed by the South African government and stands for the Regulation of Interception of Communications and provision of communication‑related information Act. This law that requires ALL cellphone users to register their identity and proof of residence against their SIM cards.
This law is there to help law enforcement agencies if they need track criminals using cellphones for illegal activities or to identify cellphone users.
OmniTel is required by law to RICA every OmniTel SIM Card with the necessary RICA documents before we can enable your SIM card for service.
Each SIM card needs its own RICA documentation, if you activate more OmniTel SIM cards in the future, you will need to go through the RICA process again.
